HONOR has unveiled that its forthcoming Magic V5 foldable phone will measure just 8.8mm in thickness when folded, making it thinner than both a pack of chewing gum and a CD case. This model is anticipated to launch in China on July 2.
As Samsung prepares to release the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which promises to be leaner than its predecessors, HONOR claims its Magic V5 will be the thinnest book-style foldable phone available. The announcement revealed that at 8.8mm, the Magic V5 is even thinner than the OPPO Find N5, which currently holds the record at 8.93mm.
While the specifications do not seem to account for any potential camera bump, the V5’s design significantly improves upon the previous model, the Magic V2, which was already sleeker than a typical pen. This new model is ideal for consumers seeking a foldable phone that can easily fit into pockets or bags without adding bulk.
In terms of competition, HONOR has not yet provided information about the phone’s weight, but the Magic V5 will contend with the upcoming vivo X Fold 5. Vivo has announced that the new foldable phone will be lighter than its predecessor, the X Fold 3, which weighed in at 219 grams as the lightest foldable in the world.
While the HONOR Magic V5 is set for a launch in China on July 2, there is currently no information regarding a global release. However, based on previous patterns, a broader rollout could be expected by August or September.
