Recently, an APK teardown of Google’s Phone app revealed potential updates to the Call Notes feature in upcoming Pixel devices. Currently, this feature plays a verbal disclaimer to inform both parties that the call is being recorded. The teardown suggests that users may soon have the option to switch to audio tones, which would be a more subtle alternative to the full audio disclaimer.
The Call Notes feature, which was introduced last year, is designed to record, transcribe, and summarize calls for user convenience. The newly indicated toggle for playing an audio tone instead of a verbal disclaimer aims to enhance user experience by reducing the intrusiveness of the alerts. The app’s teardown revealed a toggle labeled “Play audio tone instead of disclaimer,” indicating that instead of a lengthy announcement, a simple beep could suffice.
The new app version also includes audio files for what might be the starting and ending tones for recorded calls. Utilizing these tones would likely streamline the process for users who frequently rely on transcriptions and summaries. However, there are concerns that using a beep might not adequately inform all participants that the call is being recorded.
In addition to this feature, recent findings indicated that the Google Phone app may also enable automatic deletion of call notes after set periods—either one week, two weeks, or 30 days. While Google is enhancing its capabilities, it is worth noting that other brands, including Samsung, also provide similar call summary features. Overall, the anticipated update demonstrates Google’s commitment to improving the user experience on Pixel devices, making call management more efficient.
