The RPCS3-Android PS3 emulator for Android has officially been discontinued, but its developer has quickly introduced a new app called RPCSX-UI-Android. The newly launched emulator retains the same user interface as its predecessor, providing a familiar experience for users.
This transition comes just a week after the developer announced the discontinuation of RPCS3-Android, opting instead to join forces with the RPCSX project. RPCS3-Android made significant strides in PlayStation 3 emulation on Android devices, managing to run PS3 games effectively while undergoing continuous improvements.
However, with the discontinuation of the app, the release of RPCSX-UI-Android marks a seamless shift for users who appreciated the original emulator’s capabilities. The RPCSX-UI-Android app operates identically to RPCS3-Android and continues to require the installation of PS3 firmware for functionality.
It supports both ISO and PKG formats for games and is compatible with virtual gamepads as well as physical controllers. Additionally, features such as a virtual home button are included, allowing for quick access to save states, screenshot options, and screen recording.
Importantly, the new app also brings improvements and bug fixes that enhance the overall performance compared to the last version of the former emulator. Users interested in keeping up with updates and enhancements should transition to RPCSX-UI-Android, as RPCS3-Android will no longer receive support.
However, it is important to note that the emulator is still in the early stages of development. Users may experience performance issues, such as overheating devices or games that do not run smoothly.
