Strava has introduced Performance Predictions, a new tool that aims to enhance training management for athletes. Available exclusively to paying subscribers, this feature uses machine learning to provide estimates of finish times and pacing for various race distances, including 5K, 10K, half marathons, and marathons. Essentially, it gives users a realistic picture of their performance based on recent runs rather than mere optimism.

Performance Predictions operates by analyzing over 100 data points and comparing users’ statistics to those of similar athletes. It updates automatically after each run, making adjustments to reflect fluctuations in performance, even during rest periods. The primary objective of the tool is to deliver dynamic, data-driven insights that facilitate more intentional training sessions.

By monitoring recent performance and recovery, users can stay motivated and aligned with their training goals, ensuring they follow an effective plan leading up to race day. This tool aims to eliminate guesswork in training, replacing wishful thinking with forecasting grounded in reality. However, to utilize Performance Predictions, users must be Strava members.

Membership costs $11.99 per month or $79.99 annually. The feature can easily be found in the app under the You tab. This launch comes in the wake of Strava’s acquisition of Runna, a UK-based fitness app known for its AI-driven training plans and coaching.
