Many People Unaware of Proper Methods to Update Their Android Phones, Survey Reveals – Android Authority

A recent survey conducted by Android Authority reveals a surprising lack of awareness about Google Play system updates among Android users. While many people start their phone updates by checking the software update section in Settings, this traditional method often overlooks the crucial Google Play system updates that introduce new features and enhancements.

Rita El Khoury, a contributor at Android Authority, pointed out the tendency for users to miss these updates, prompting the survey among the site’s readers. The results showed that while a strong majority of participants made an effort to stay updated, a significant portion was either unaware of these updates or neglected to download them.

Out of over 7,000 responses, 49.3% reported consistently checking for monthly updates, reflecting a commendable commitment among Android enthusiasts. One user humorously shared their routine of rebooting their device every Sunday to install any pending updates.

However, the survey also highlighted that 41.7% of respondents either forgot about the updates or didn’t know they existed. Such a gap in awareness is concerning, especially considering the security and new features these updates provide.

Moreover, some users noted that the updates do not always install automatically, even after a reboot. One user shared an experience where their device rebooted every Monday, yet the last Play system update was from July 2024.

This indicates a flaw in the update delivery process that needs to be addressed. The survey findings suggest that Google must enhance the visibility and accessibility of Play system updates.

By ensuring they are integrated into the update process with clearer prompts or automatic installations, more users can take full advantage of the improvements these updates offer.
