Google has announced that its Gemini chatbot will be available on various platforms including Wear OS, Android Auto, and more, later this year. This announcement was made by Google CEO Sundar Pichai during the Q1 2025 earnings call. Currently, Gemini is accessible on many Android phones and the web, while Google Assistant continues to serve users on smartwatches, cars, and other smart devices. Pichai shared that an upgrade to Gemini will be implemented on mobile devices first, followed by tablets, cars, and accessory devices like headphones and watches.
Although no specific launch date has been shared, further information is expected during the upcoming Google I/O event. The expansion of Gemini to additional platforms aligns with earlier findings from Android Authority, where evidence of Gemini being integrated into Wear OS smartwatches and Android Auto was discovered months ago. In particular, an August 2024 app teardown hinted at the functionality for Android Auto, and the feature was successfully activated by the team last month. The development of Gemini Live for various products is promising.
Notable features include its multi-language capabilities and enhanced speed and responsiveness, which have been positively received by users and reviewers alike. However, some long-time users of Google Assistant may feel a sense of loss, especially if they relied on routines and commands that are currently unavailable in Gemini. As the rollout approaches, anticipation builds among users eager to see how Gemini will enhance their interactions across different devices.
