Cricket Wireless has recently introduced a long-awaited feature: a trade-in program in collaboration with Asurion. This program allows customers to exchange old devices for direct credits on their service bills, marking a significant improvement over traditional methods. Unlike other trade-in initiatives that usually issue delayed gift cards, Cricket credits the trade-in value directly to customers’ accounts within just one to two billing cycles. One of the key advantages of Cricket’s trade-in program is its accessibility; customers are not required to purchase a new phone or change their plans to participate.
This feature provides an effortless way for users to save money by trading in their older, unused devices. Many of my friends and family who are current Cricket users have expressed frustration over the lack of a trade-in program since they previously had to sell or dispose of their old phones elsewhere. Customers have the option to assess the trade-in value of their devices either online or at a Cricket Authorized Retailer. For those opting for the online route, a prepaid envelope is provided to ship the device.
Cricket will then conduct a thorough evaluation once the device is received. It is worth noting that while Cricket accepts some cracked devices, those conditions may influence the initial valuation. If a device is not accepted, it will be promptly returned within 48 hours. As stated by Cricket’s Chief Marketing Officer, Shailendra Gujarati, this program is designed with customers in focus, providing a straightforward way to lower service payments without the complexities often associated with gift card plans.
Although Cricket is not the first prepaid carrier to implement a trade-in program, it is poised to offer one of the most competitive options available.
