Samsung has announced several exciting updates to its weather widget as part of the One UI 7 rollout. These enhancements are set to provide users with more comprehensive weather information and an improved overall experience. Some of the key features include forecasts for a variety of activities, such as stargazing, and the ability to switch between cities with ease. Historically, Samsung has included weather widgets on its devices, offering various sizes and functions.
With One UI 7, the company has decided to simplify the widget selection to just two main types, while maintaining multiple size options. Additionally, the amount of information displayed for each size has been revised to enhance usability. Previously, the weather widget included forecasts for limited outdoor activities like running and driving. The update will expand this, now providing guidance for activities such as biking, walking, golfing, hiking, and camping.
These activity-specific forecasts, however, are limited to a three-hour window, and stargazing information is available only after sunset. This enhancement is something that may inspire other brands to incorporate similar features in their weather applications. Another significant change is the improvement in city switching functionality. Users previously needed to access a menu to change cities, but with the One UI 7 update, this process will be streamlined, allowing users to swipe left or right to change their location directly within the widget.
Furthermore, Samsung is enhancing the informational text related to UV levels, humidity, and wind, aiming to provide a clearer understanding of current weather conditions. The updated weather widget will first launch on the Galaxy S25 series before making its way to older devices, likely with the stable One UI 7 update or shortly thereafter.
