The Nothing Phone 3 has just been launched, introducing a new feature called the Glyph Matrix, which replaces the previous Glyph Interface. This innovative monochrome micro-LED display consists of 489 individually lit LEDs, offering a distinctive design with customizable functionalities.
Users can manage notifications, app interactions, games, and even live indicators using this display. A dedicated Glyph Button, conveniently located on the back of the phone, allows easy control of these features, alongside a red indicator that lights up during video recording.
With the shift from the Glyph Interface, which was primarily composed of LED lights on older models, the new Glyph Matrix aims to help users reduce their screen time. However, the term “Glyph Interface” continues to be used by the company, adding some confusion.
The Glyph Matrix enhances user experience by allowing for app-specific alerts and contact notifications, with customizable icons that show pixelated avatars when messages arrive. A new caller ID feature is also expected this month through an OTA update, which users can activate by long-pressing the Glyph Button to display contact names or numbers during calls.
In addition to these features, the Nothing Phone 3 includes several fun aspects known as Glyph Toys, which bring interactive elements to the micro-LED display. These include the Glyph Mirror for taking selfies, a digital clock, and various games like Rock Paper Scissors and Magic 8 Ball.
These engaging functionalities are controlled by the Glyph Button, located in line with the Glyph Matrix. Additionally, a new recording light on the back of the phone activates during video recording or voice memo use, enhancing the phone’s utility.
With these innovative features, the Nothing Phone 3 positions itself as a quirky yet functional device, available at a price point of $799.
