Nintendo has announced a delay in the pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the United States, a decision influenced by newly imposed tariffs on imported goods. Despite this setback, the company has confirmed that the official launch date of the console remains set for June 5, 2025. Earlier this week, Nintendo revealed extensive details about the Switch 2 during a Direct presentation, showcasing its specifications, features, and a selection of available games. However, those eager to secure a pre-order in the U.S. will have to wait longer than anticipated.
The announced tariff changes by President Donald Trump have raised concerns about the potential impact on the pricing of the Switch 2, which is currently set at $450. In light of this, Nintendo stated, “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.” The company has assured fans that further updates on the timing of pre-orders will be provided later. This situation echoes previous challenges faced by Nintendo, as the company had previously relocated its production from China to Vietnam to mitigate the effects of a 25% tariff during Trump’s first term.
Unfortunately, the current tariff situation now includes Vietnam, which faces a staggering 46% on imported goods. While the postponement of pre-orders may be disappointing for many, Nintendo remains committed to launching its next-generation console on the scheduled date. However, the possibility of a price adjustment for U.S. gamers before the launch remains uncertain.
