Samsung is reportedly planning to implement significant upgrades to the battery technology in its upcoming Galaxy S26 series. The company is exploring advanced “battery protection circuits” and a new stainless steel housing known as SUS CAN. These enhancements could allow Samsung to increase battery capacity while delivering better performance and potentially faster charging.
In a bid to address past concerns regarding battery life in Galaxy flagships, Samsung has partnered with South Korea’s ITM Semiconductor Co. to improve battery longevity. ITM is set to provide specialized solutions, incorporating additive fillers to protect batteries against physical stress. Specifically for the Galaxy S26, the new battery protection circuits will utilize epoxy molding compound (EMC) technology.
This technology regulates charge flow and prevents overcharging or rapid discharging, which can accelerate battery degradation. However, while these developments suggest that the Galaxy S26 series may feature larger batteries than those in the previous Galaxy S25 series, it’s still uncertain. Rumors speculate that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could house a 5,500mAh battery, marking a ten percent increase over its predecessor.
Reports also indicate that the switch to SUS CAN housing may allow for higher battery capacities without the limitations seen in previous models. Despite these advancements, Samsung appears to be lagging in adopting more innovative battery technologies, such as silicon-carbon (Si-C) batteries. These batteries are gaining traction among competitors for their higher charge density and reduced physical footprint.
High-capacity models like the OnePlus 15 are rumored to feature a 7,000mAh battery, raising questions about whether the Galaxy S26 Ultra will keep pace. In conclusion, while the Galaxy S26 series is set for notable battery improvements, its capacity may still fall short compared to other smartphones adopting more advanced battery technologies.
