Google Clarifies Gemini Email Update Benefits for Users, Ensuring Enhanced Experience – Android Authority

Google has provided clarification regarding the updates to its Gemini email application, affirming that the changes scheduled for July 7 are beneficial for users. The statement followed initial confusion sparked by a vague email from Google that suggested users might lose control over their data. The upcoming update means that Gemini will assist users with everyday tasks such as sending messages, making phone calls, and setting timers, regardless of whether Gemini Apps Activity is activated. This clarification addresses worries that the AI would access personal data even when activity tracking is disabled.

Google confirmed that turning off Gemini Apps Activity will ensure that user interactions are not logged or utilized to refine AI models. Starting from July 7, users will have the ability to utilize Gemini more effectively as a personal assistant, even with the App Activity feature turned off. Currently, deactivating Gemini App Activity also restricts the functionalities of connected apps like Phone, WhatsApp, and Messages. The forthcoming changes will allow users to maintain their privacy settings while still fully engaging with these applications via Gemini.

For users seeking tighter control over their data, Google offers several tips. First, they recommend disabling Gemini Apps Activity through the app’s settings. Users can navigate to their profile, select Gemini Apps Activity, and toggle it off. It’s important to note that even with the activity off, chats are stored in the account for up to 72 hours.

Moreover, users can limit Gemini’s access to core apps such as WhatsApp and Messages. This can be done by going to the Gemini app, accessing the profile section, and checking options under Apps to revoke permissions for specific apps. However, keep in mind that disabling access means users won’t be able to use Gemini to make calls or send messages. Finally, it is crucial to be cautious about sharing sensitive information, as conversations may still be reviewed, especially if activity tracking is enabled.
