Pixel Camera Update Could Have Disabled This Convenient Sharing Feature

Google has recently released an update for the Pixel Camera app that has caused notable changes, specifically the removal of the Social Share shortcut. This feature was first introduced with the Pixel 4 series in 2019, designed to allow users to quickly share photos immediately after capturing them. This shortcut presented a menu for a few seconds, enabling users to select from a variety of apps to share their images easily. According to 9to5Google, the Pixel Camera 9.9 update (version 9.9.106.767010485.16) no longer includes the Social Share shortcut.

I can verify that this feature is indeed absent on my Pixel 7 Pro following the recent update. This shortcut offered convenience, allowing users to share photos swiftly by tapping an upward arrow to reveal even more sharing options. While the Social Share shortcut aimed to enhance user experience, I can attest that I rarely utilized it personally. Despite being enabled, the interface felt somewhat unpolished, with app icons often obscured.

Additionally, the feature’s support for popular apps, such as WhatsApp, had reportedly been dropped. However, I would welcome the return of this feature with a more refined user interface in future updates, as it contributes to a quicker sharing process. Interestingly, this update was also expected to introduce a new education hub within the camera app, providing enhanced tutorials akin to those found on phones from other brands. However, it appears that this feature has not yet been integrated.

We have reached out to Google for clarification on the missing Social Share shortcut and to inquire if it will be reinstated. We will update further once we receive a response. If you have any tips or insights, feel free to reach out to our team.
