The Dreamcast emulator Flycast has recently ceased its iOS support due to persistent harassment directed at one of its developers. This troubling situation was highlighted in a Reddit post that shared Discord messages indicating the developer, known as flyinghead, faced severe threats, including death threats, from a single individual.
Such targeted harassment has led to the removal of all iOS builds of the emulator. In the Reddit thread, flyinghead explained the decision made to withdraw support: “Due to persistent harassment from an iOS user, support for this platform has been dropped, and all release builds deleted.” That message was also echoed in the project’s GitHub repository, where it outlines iOS installation instructions.
Reports suggest that the harassment was particularly aggressive, with the original poster citing instances where the individual responsible faced bans from the server five times. Yet, they continued to return, issuing insults and threats repeatedly.
In one of the shared Discord images, flyinghead stressed the severity of the situation, revealing: “Some moron keeps coming back and insults everyone. He sent me death threats by DM.
Banned him 5 times.”
Flycast has been widely recognized in the emulation community, supporting platforms such as Android, Windows, Linux, and macOS. Although the iOS version wasn’t available through the App Store, it could be sideloaded, offering a valuable option for Dreamcast enthusiasts.
The Reddit discussion reflects disappointment over the loss of the emulator but also expresses compassion for the developer, highlighting the unfortunate reality that one person’s behavior can negatively impact many.
