An exciting development is on the horizon for Pixel users, as a new shortcut to access Search’s AI Mode is expected to be integrated into the home screen. This will be made available through the Pixel Launcher’s search widget, allowing users to launch the Google app’s AI Mode interface with ease.
Through our exploration of the Android 16 QPR1 beta, we have managed to enable this feature early for a preview. Earlier this year, Google unveiled Search’s AI Mode to assist users in finding answers to complex and multi-part questions. Currently, users can access AI Mode via the web or the Google app, where they can tap on the AI Mode button.
The forthcoming shortcut aims to streamline this process for Pixel users, enhancing their experience. Our analysis of the APK teardown indicates that this feature is still in development, and while it shows promising potential, it may not be included in the final public release. The AI Mode shortcut will be neatly positioned in the Pixel Launcher’s search widget, situated next to the voice search and Lens shortcuts.
The icon itself will reflect Google’s signature colors but will adapt to match the system colors based on user preferences. The AI Mode home screen shortcut is anticipated to be rolled out with Android 16, but as it has not yet been activated in the first Android 16 QPR1 beta, its official launch may be deferred to a later update. We will keep you informed as soon as this exciting new feature becomes available widely.
