Recently, Samsung teased a new “Ultra” foldable device, igniting speculation about the potential release of a Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra this summer. However, according to a trusted leaker, these expectations might be misplaced. The leaker claims that there will not be an “Ultra” version coming soon, and instead, Samsung is using the term to describe upgrades related to the camera, performance, and design of the standard Galaxy Z Fold 7. The hype surrounding the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra arises in large part due to a GIF released by Samsung.
While fans anticipated significant changes, leaker Max Jambor clarified that the forthcoming device will only be the standard Fold 7, which is meant to deliver an “Ultra” experience through its enhancements. So, what can users expect from the Galaxy Z Fold 7? Jambor indicates that the “Ultra” designation pertains primarily to improvements in the camera, performance, and thinner design, although it may also come with a higher price tag. Reports suggest the Z Fold 7 could feature a 200MP main camera, an upgrade from the 50MP sensor in the Fold 6, along with enhancements to the under-display camera.
Additionally, the device is anticipated to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip for enhanced performance. In terms of design, the Z Fold 7 is expected to be thinner than its predecessors, measuring around 9.5mm when closed and 4.5mm when open. For context, the Fold 6 measures 12.1mm closed and 5.6mm open. The current Fold 6 retails at approximately $1,899, but it remains uncertain if the price will increase with the new model.
Furthermore, there is speculation about an upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, potentially happening in New York City early next month, marking the first such event there since August 2022. Samsung has yet to confirm this event, but updates are expected soon.
