iPhone Users on Google Fi Now Can Enjoy RCS Messaging with Android Friends

Google Fi users with iPhones can now enjoy RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging, thanks to the recent iOS 18.4 update. This feature allows iPhone users to communicate with Android friends using enhanced messaging capabilities rather than the standard SMS text messages.

Initially, RCS support was limited to users on certain carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, but the latest update expands these possibilities. The rollout of iOS 18.4, which was released yesterday, enables Google Fi subscribers to access RCS features.

This enhancement includes options such as sharing high-resolution photos and videos, seeing typing indicators, and receiving read receipts when messaging Android users. Google confirmed this availability through a recent support announcement, emphasizing the upgrade for Google Fi subscribers.

To activate RCS, Google Fi users need to go to the Messages section in their iPhone settings and toggle on the RCS Messaging feature. It may take a little time for the feature to fully activate, and users might see a notification saying “Waiting for activation.”

Importantly, RCS messages will utilize users’ mobile data. Those on unlimited data plans won’t face extra charges, while users on the Flexible plan will incur additional costs based on data usage.

Additionally, while the beta version of iOS 18.4 suggested possible RCS support for iPhones on T-Mobile MVNO networks, there have been no official updates confirming this yet. For any tips or additional information, Google Fi encourages users to reach out, whether they prefer to remain anonymous or receive acknowledgment for their contributions.
