YouTube Music has introduced a new double-tap gesture that streamlines the process of liking songs. Users can now simply tap the center of an album cover to add a song to their playlist.
This feature, which is part of version 8.14.53A, aims to improve user experience by making it easier to interact with music, reflecting similar practices seen on social media platforms. The double-tap feature was first hinted at in an earlier version, 8.03.51, but has only recently become available to users.
Before this update, double-tapping the center of the album cover had no effect, while double-tapping on the sides would seek the song in that direction. Now, with just a quick tap, users can like a song, which is automatically added to the Liked Songs playlist.
This development aligns YouTube Music more closely with the user interactions found on trendy short-form video platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, where the “double-tap to like” gesture has become commonplace. As a result, YouTube Music is adapting to user expectations and ensuring that it doesn’t feel out of place among its competitors.
YouTube Music is part of the YouTube Premium subscription service, which helps maintain its competitive edge against other streaming services like Spotify. As Google continues to enhance YouTube Music with new features, this addition contributes to creating a more user-friendly and engaging experience for its audience.
With these ongoing improvements, YouTube Music aims to keep its users satisfied and entertained.
