Google’s Autofill Feature Set for Potential User Interface Update in Upcoming Release

Google is reportedly planning a visual update for its “Autofill with Google” settings page. This underappreciated feature on Android devices saves users’ personal information, including names, addresses, and login details, for seamless auto-filling on web forms. While many users benefit from this functionality, few realize they can adjust various settings related to it directly from their Android phones. In its ongoing efforts to improve UI across different services, Google recently included changes for the Autofill feature in the latest beta version of Google Play Services.

This update brings new icons, enhanced editing options, and clearer indicators for outbound links. Although the current user interface is quite user-friendly, the impending design aims to introduce a fresher look. One notable change is the introduction of new icons with a white background, alongside a launch icon for each entry that indicates a transition to a webpage. In addition, a pencil icon has been added next to Google account entries to signify that users can modify the account utilized for Autofill.

However, there are still some inconsistencies, particularly with sections that retain monochrome icons, which seem outdated compared to the improved elements of the new design. While the monochrome style may align with the aesthetics of other settings within the app, a more cohesive design approach would enhance the overall user experience. At this time, the new UI redesign is not accessible to all users and its future release remains uncertain. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
