One UI 7 has introduced an exciting feature called Live Notifications, enhancing the user experience for popular media apps like YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix. This feature provides a persistent notification that allows users to control media playback directly from the notification shade, whether they are playing content locally or through casting. As Samsung rolls out the latest One UI 7 builds alongside Android 15, users have discovered several features not explicitly outlined in the official changelog. Among these is the implementation of live notifications for media playback controls, which adds a new layer of convenience for users.
My colleague Zac Kew-Denniss noted that the latest updates, particularly those containing the April 2025 security patch, enable this feature for any app that offers ongoing media playback notifications. While Samsung’s changelog mentions real-time notifications, it falls short in explaining the full scope of this enhancement. The ability to track ongoing tasks on the lock screen or notification panel is beneficial, but it overlooks the new functionality for media apps. Users can now enjoy live notifications for apps like Spotify, YouTube Music, and YouTube during playback, whether locally or through casting.
However, Netflix shows notifications only during casting, not for local playback. To access this feature, you’ll need to be on the newer One UI 7 builds found in stable versions for devices like the Galaxy S24 or within recent beta versions. Earlier builds, including the initial stable releases for the Galaxy S25, lack this functionality. Interestingly, reports suggest that the live notifications may support cross-device synchronization, allowing users to control YouTube playback on different devices without being connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
This capability stands in contrast to standard notifications that typically require proximity on the network, showcasing the enhanced utility of One UI 7’s new feature. Have you experienced these live notifications on your One UI 7 device? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
