Vivo X200 Ultra Introduces Impressive 8.7x Add-On Lens for Enhanced Photography Capabilities

Vivo has recently unveiled an exciting feature for its upcoming X200 Ultra smartphone: an optional add-on camera lens. This innovative lens attaches to the phone’s impressive 200MP periscope camera, allowing for an 8.7x optical zoom and a highly usable 35x digital zoom.

This announcement follows a trend seen at MWC 2025, where other brands like realme and Xiaomi showcased concept phones with similar add-on lenses. Han Boxiao, a Vivo executive, shared that the X200 Ultra will include a ZEISS camera lens add-on that leverages the device’s 200MP periscope camera.

The lens provides a focal length of 200mm (8.7x) at an f/2.3 aperture. Interestingly, it also allows for a 800mm (35x) zoom, which Vivo claims is practical for users.

Additionally, the lens offers a 1600mm (70x) equivalent to 30x magnification without needing the accessory. Some sample photos taken with the external lens have been released, showcasing its capabilities.

Despite the excitement surrounding this technology, the bulkiness of the add-on may deter some users, as this was a common critique of concept devices featuring external lenses. However, it’s encouraging to see a smartphone brand moving towards commercializing this type of technology, catering to photography enthusiasts who desire enhanced zoom functionality.

There are still some details regarding the pricing of the add-on lens that remain unclear, and potential users are curious about its integration with the camera app. Features like portrait mode, 4K video at 120fps, and night mode are highly anticipated.

The Vivo X200 Ultra, along with its add-on lens, is set for launch in China on April 21. With impressive camera specifications, including a 50MP main camera and ultrawide camera, Vivo aims to compete with existing top-tier camera phones.

The excitement is palpable as many await the performance of the X200 Ultra in the competitive smartphone market.
