Upcoming Play Store Update: Enhanced Features for Tracking Download Progress Unveiled (APK Teardown)

The Google Play Store is gearing up to introduce a new download progress notification feature aimed at making it simpler for users to track app downloads on their devices. Originally discovered during an earlier APK teardown, this functionality has undergone significant enhancements, and it appears close to its final version. The updated notification will conveniently display up to three recently downloaded apps and games, allowing users easy access to launch them directly from the notification shade.

Previously, the notification included a “See more” button, but this has now been replaced with a clearer indication of how many additional apps have been installed recently. Following the completion of a download, the notification will indicate “Recently installed” beneath the app’s name, as opposed to the previously confusing “0% of 0MB” message. While the most recent version of the Play Store (version 46.8.29-31) does not introduce any major interface changes, it improves functionality by ensuring that the “Open” buttons work correctly.

Furthermore, once a user launches an app from this notification, it will be removed automatically. It seems that this new notification feature is nearing its rollout phase. Google is likely planning to implement it in an upcoming update to the Play Store.
