Google is enhancing its Gemini Live feature with an upcoming compact overlay, as revealed in a recent APK teardown. This new interface aims to provide users with a more efficient way to interact with the Gemini Live app. Among the anticipated features is a button that activates Gemini Live’s version of Circle to Search, allowing users to engage with screen input in a more dynamic way. Over the past few months, we’ve been closely monitoring the development of Gemini Live, particularly its support for various functionalities and the implementation of a more streamlined overlay interface.
As we inch closer to the public release, more details have emerged about what users can expect from this update. An APK teardown helps forecast potential features based on in-progress code, although it’s important to note that some of these may not appear in the final product. The teardown conducted on the 16.25.44.sa.arm64 beta release of the Google Android app provides insights into upcoming functionalities. While the branding for Circle to Search hasn’t been prominently featured, indications suggest that Google is working on capabilities that mirror this functionality.
One of the highlighted changes includes a newly designed Floating Action Button (FAB) that appears to be more intuitive and user-friendly compared to its earlier iteration. This redesign aims to enhance the user experience by refining the overlay’s appearance and behavior. Furthermore, a caption button has been added above the overlay, although its placement may feel somewhat awkward among existing controls. However, users will appreciate that once activated, captions remain persistent, even if the overlay is minimized.
Currently, these features are not publicly available, but they certainly provide a glimpse into the promising direction of Gemini Live as Google continues its development efforts.
