Pixel Camera App Developers Release Indigo Update to Fix Key Issues – Android Authority

The creators of the Pixel camera app have released an update for the Project Indigo camera app, addressing significant issues that users have reported. The latest update, Version 10.2, is particularly aimed at resolving overheating and stability concerns that emerged during early testing, especially on iPhones. One of the most notable changes is the decision to disable super-resolution by default on several iPhone models, including the iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, 15, and 15 Plus. This adjustment is intended to alleviate some of the overheating issues encountered, as our testing indicated that the app caused the iPhone 16 to heat up and freeze.

Additionally, the update modifies thermal warnings to trigger only when the device reaches critical temperatures, rather than earlier in the overheating process. Other enhancements in this update include quality improvements for multi-frame super-resolution, particularly in scenes with both bright and shadowy areas. For lower-performing devices, the app now features reduced photo capture rates to ensure better stability. Moreover, Tech Previews have been disabled during photo processing, and this release includes several general bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Though the update does not explicitly mention improvements for performance or overheating, many of the modifications seem designed to lower the app’s processing demands, which could mitigate the overheating that leads to crashes. Currently, there is no set timeline for the Android version of Project Indigo, but the developers have confirmed that it is in progress.
