Google is reportedly developing a temporary chat feature for its AI assistant, Gemini, which could potentially place it in competition with ChatGPT. This new feature is expected to function similarly to ChatGPT’s Temporary Chats, allowing users to start conversations without saving any previous memory on the platform. Recently, further insights have emerged about this feature, confirming that chats initiated through this temporary function will not be visible in Gemini’s Apps Activity or Recent Chats.
While these conversations will be kept for 72 hours, they will not be utilized for model training or personalization. This advancement aims to streamline user experience by eliminating the need to delete old chats manually. In a previous report, it was revealed that both OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini are popular AI assistants.
As technology progresses rapidly, Google is keen on enhancing its features to maintain competitiveness. Early indications of the temporary chat feature were discovered in Google app version 16.22.44 beta, showcasing a new disappearing clock icon alongside the new chat button in the sidebar. This icon suggests that users can initiate a temporary chat from this location.
Although the feature is still in the works, its design appears to echo the “incognito mode” familiar to many internet users. While ChatGPT allows conversations to start afresh without any memory, it can still adhere to customized instructions if enabled. Despite this, it should be noted that OpenAI retains conversations for safety reasons, but these are not used for model enhancement.
Details surrounding Gemini’s temporary chat feature are still scarce, but updates are expected soon as Google progresses with its development.
