YouTube Informs Premium Lite Users About Upcoming Ads in Shorts – Android Authority

YouTube is currently informing some subscribers of its Premium Lite plan about an increase in advertisements starting next month. Premium Lite, a cost-effective subscription option, primarily removes most ads from the platform, though certain exceptions, such as music videos and YouTube Shorts, remain. The latest notifications reveal that ads will soon appear in Shorts for Premium Lite users starting June 30.

The YouTube Premium subscription has been a valuable investment for users, providing ad-free access to a vast array of content. However, for those who rely on other music streaming services like Spotify, the cost of a full YouTube Premium subscription may not be justified. This is why the introduction of YouTube Premium Lite has been well-received; it offers an ad-free experience at a significantly lower price without additional features.

While Premium Lite has generally succeeded in minimizing ads, it has always included some exceptions. So far, users had only encountered limited ad interruptions. However, the recent emails from YouTube to subscribers in Germany have sparked concern.

These communications inform users that ads will soon be visible in Shorts, a change many had not anticipated. Interestingly, the notifications have raised questions about why they weren’t more widely sent out earlier. When YouTube first launched Premium Lite, it did so in markets like Australia, Germany, and Thailand without announcing Shorts ads.

The U.S. launch included the ad policy from the beginning. Consequently, YouTube is now addressing the oversight by notifying users in Germany and Thailand about the ad presence in Shorts. Ultimately, while most Premium Lite subscribers were aware of the ad policy concerning Shorts, the recent communications are an effort by YouTube to clarify this information for all users.
