The Google app on Android is set to undergo some design enhancements in line with the Material 3 Expressive design language. Recent findings from the latest beta release, version 16.22.44, reveal several visual updates that are expected to arrive soon.
First off, the status bar in the Google app is getting a subtle upgrade, featuring a translucent gradient background. This change provides a more contemporary look, particularly noticeable when using the light theme, although it may be less apparent in dark mode.
Additionally, the progress bar that appears beneath the search bar during a query is being slightly redesigned. The new version is thicker and more rounded, giving it a refreshed appearance.
Another notable update involves the behavior of the navigation tabs at the bottom of the screen. Presently, these tabs remain visible while users scroll through the app.
However, Google plans to modify this feature to hide the tabs during scrolling, enhancing the overall user experience. A new loading animation from Material 3 Expressive will also appear when users reach the end of the feed.
Moreover, a “Refresh” button will be introduced beneath the search bar as users navigate through their feeds, although this functionality is not yet operational in the current beta release. These changes are expected to roll out to users in the coming days, and updates will be provided as they become widely available.
This APK teardown focuses on possible future features based on preliminary code, but it should be noted that some predicted features might not make it to the final public version.
