Samsung has unexpectedly launched a significant update for its SmartThings mobile app. The latest version, 1.8.33.25, introduces a range of new features designed to enhance the user experience. Notably, a new Home Life survey, improved routine configurations, the ability to share Galaxy Tag locations, and easier navigation through the SmartThings Map View are highlighted in the changelog.
The Home Life survey, accessible via the menu tab, aims to personalize the user experience by asking questions such as household size, interests, and desired SmartThings features. This feedback will help tailor messages that highlight relevant functionality within the app. Another addition is the enhancement of routine configurations.
Users can now receive notifications before routines commence and have the option to set delays between multiple actions within a single routine, offering greater flexibility. Additionally, SmartThings users can now share the location of their Galaxy Tag with others. This feature generates a temporary link that can be shared with friends and family, allowing them to track the tag’s location for a set duration of 12 hours, 24 hours, or up to a week.
Furthermore, the update allows users to set Map View as the default when opening the app, along with simplified navigation between Map View and the Home tab. There is also an unannounced feature: support for SmartThings in Now Bar and Live Notifications, which can now be toggled on or off in the Now Bar settings. Although this update brings exciting changes, it is still being rolled out in phases, so not all users will have access immediately.
