Retroid has recently unveiled a new dual-screen accessory for its retro gaming handhelds, which is more than just a typical device launch. Rather than introducing a brand-new gaming handheld, this announcement features the Dual Screen add-on designed for some of Retroid’s most popular models. This add-on aims to enhance the gaming experience, particularly for emulators that support Nintendo DS, 3DS, and even Wii U games.
The Dual Screen accessory features a substantial screen with a clip at the bottom. Once attached to a compatible handheld, it forms a clamshell design reminiscent of devices like the LG V60 or Microsoft Surface Duo. While details on the accessory are limited, a company representative confirmed on Discord that it will utilize an OLED panel.
Currently, it’s compatible with several flagship models including the Retroid Pocket 5, Pocket Mini, and Pocket 4 Pro. However, it won’t work with the newest models, the Pocket Flip 2 and Classic, which is understandable given their distinct designs. Incorporating a second screen might seem unconventional, but it significantly enhances the immersion for titles belonging to Nintendo DS and 3DS.
Although popular emulators for DS and 3DS already support dual-screen gameplay, Wii U compatibility remains underdeveloped. This isn’t the first of its kind; the LG V60 had its dual screen and similar concepts emerged with the ROG TwinView Dock designed for ROG Phones. A recent Indiegogo campaign also introduced the DNA Duo, showcasing another take on this dual-screen idea.
Customers are encouraged to keep an eye out for updates, as Retroid has not yet disclosed any details regarding the pricing or availability of this intriguing accessory.
