Potential Frustrating Audio Setting Changes Coming with One UI 8 – Android Authority

Samsung’s One UI 8 is on the horizon, set to introduce both exciting and potentially frustrating changes, particularly concerning audio settings on Galaxy devices. This forthcoming update aims to enhance user experience with improvements, including Android 16’s live updates and enhanced lock screen customization. However, one of the notable changes involves the “Sound quality and effects” settings, which are being restructured.

Reportedly, the new interface will display different menus based on whether Galaxy Buds are connected to the device. Currently, audio settings for connected earbuds are segregated from those for the device’s speakers or other audio outputs. This means that when Galaxy Buds are in use, adjustments to the phone’s speaker settings become inaccessible.

The reworked menu under Settings > Sound and vibration > Sound quality and effects will exclusively feature controls tailored for the Galaxy Buds when they are connected. This overhaul replaces broader system-wide equalizer (EQ) settings with specific options for the earbuds and transitions from Dolby Atmos configurations to 360-degree audio functionalities for the Buds. Some users have expressed concern about losing access to “Custom EQ” settings.

Reports indicate that while these settings may be unavailable for certain versions or models, others like the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro continue to support them. This inconsistency suggests that the changes could be a bug or a refinement process in the update. While the intention appears to simplify the audio experience, it may prove inconvenient for users who frequently toggle between audio outputs on their devices.

It remains to be seen how these updates will affect users with multiple audio sources connected simultaneously.
