Photos Reveal Another Instance of Google Pixel 6a Melting – Android Authority

Disturbing reports have emerged concerning the Google Pixel 6a, as yet another device has reportedly melted due to a battery overheating issue. A reader reached out to *Android Authority* after witnessing their phone completely destroyed in such an event.

The incident highlights a concerning trend among the A-series Pixels, known for their mid-range affordability and desirable features. The photos shared by the user depict a severely damaged Pixel 6a that could have led to a house fire if the owner had not intervened in time.

Fortunately, in this case, Google has offered a Pixel 8a as a replacement for the affected user. The A-series phones are typically celebrated for their combination of premium features at a lower price point, yet this recent spate of incidents raises serious questions about the safety and reliability of these devices.

In this specific case, the device was being charged with a non-OEM charger when it emitted an overheating alert in the early morning while the user was asleep. The alarm was promptly followed by a popping noise and a burning smell, prompting the user to rush to the scene, only to find that the phone had already sustained significant damage, including a melted case and a detached display.

After confirming the device posed no further danger, the user contacted Google Fi support, resulting in a series of communications that ultimately led to the offer of a Pixel 8a as a replacement. This decision is puzzling considering that the Pixel 9a is available and could have served as a more appropriate replacement for a device that suffered such extreme damage.

While it is reassuring that no one was harmed and the user’s home was not significantly impacted, the frequency of overheating incidents with the Pixel 6a is alarming. It raises the question of whether Google should consider a recall to avoid potential disasters in the future.
