Perplexity is set to launch its AI-driven web browser, Comet, for Android soon, with a more immediate rollout for Windows. This announcement follows a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) session with the company’s CEO, Aravind Srinivas, who suggested that users could expect news in the Fall. In February, Perplexity first unveiled their browser, which is described as a “browser for agentic search,” positioning itself as a unique gateway to the web for inquisitive users.
During the AMA, Srinivas reported that progress on the Android version of Comet is advancing quickly, hinting that the release is not far off. While he did not provide a specific launch date, this reassurance suggests that Android users will soon be able to access the innovative features of the new browser. Additionally, Perplexity confirmed that the desktop versions for macOS and Windows will be released simultaneously, with the beta for Windows expected to be available next week.
Comet is anticipated to incorporate various features alongside its Perplexity-enhanced search capabilities, including potential integrations for games and AI-driven teaching tools. The company has also indicated plans to bring its productivity tool, Labs, into the browser, as well as other services such as content discovery and finance tools. Once launched, Comet will face stiff competition from established browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, as well as newer options like Arc Search and the forthcoming project, Dia, from The Browser Company.
As the launch window approaches, users are eager to see how Comet will perform in this crowded market.
