New Android Auto Theme Options Revealed in APK Teardown

Android Auto is on the verge of launching a long-awaited light theme, thanks to the new theming options introduced in its latest beta version. Users will soon have the ability to choose from Automatic, Light, and Dark themes for Android Auto. This update will replace the previous settings, which only allowed users to toggle the Google Maps theme between light and dark modes. In version 14.7.152544, the new light theme settings were uncovered, indicating progress toward a system-wide implementation.

An APK teardown, a method used to analyze code and predict future features, reveals that Android Auto’s light theme has been in development for some time. Previous reports indicated that Google intends to apply this theme consistently across various applications and components of the Android Auto interface. Although the light theme was mentioned at Google I/O 2025, the company has not yet provided an official release date. The latest beta includes theme-switching options in the Settings menu, which will take the place of the earlier configuration that allowed only Google Maps theme adjustments.

The new options—Automatic, Light, and Dark—will enhance user customization. Selecting “Automatic” will align Android Auto’s theme with that of the connected Android device. As these new theme settings appear in the current beta build, it suggests that Google is nearing completion of the system-wide light theme. While some users have managed to enable this feature through various methods, a public rollout may be just around the corner, allowing everyone to experience a brighter interface while driving.
