Mbappé and Mahomes Unveil New Oakley Meta Smart Glasses: Highlights from Android Authority

Meta has recently introduced the Oakley Meta HSTN, a new collection of AI-powered smart glasses specifically designed for athletes. These innovative glasses come equipped with impressive features such as a 3K camera, open-ear speakers, IPX4 water resistance, and integrated Meta AI. A limited edition model will be available for $499 starting July 11, with plans for more affordable versions and wider availability to follow.

While smart glasses have not yet become a mainstream product, Meta is persistent in its mission to popularize them. After previously launching the Ray-Ban Meta line aimed at fashion enthusiasts, the company is now focused on showcasing their practical applications for athletes. The launch campaign features prominent athletes including Kylian Mbappé and Patrick Mahomes, alongside other notable figures such as J.R. Smith and Boo Johnson, to generate excitement around the product.

The HSTN glasses are based on an established Oakley frame but incorporate smart features that enhance athletic performance. Users can engage with the built-in voice assistant, ask questions during workouts, listen to podcasts without needing headphones, or record video footage of their activities—all hands-free. The battery life is rated for up to eight hours of typical use, with the included case providing an additional 48 hours of charging capability.

Although these glasses may seem costly at $499 for the limited edition, more models starting at $399 are slated for release later this summer. Preorders will be available on July 11, initially in regions such as North America, Europe, and Australia, with plans to expand to other markets, including Mexico and India. The launch campaign will also be featured at major sporting events, leaving the question of the demand for AI-enhanced glasses on the field open for discussion.
