Vivo has unveiled the X Fold 5, its latest foldable phone, in China. This remarkable device claims the title of the world’s lightest book-style foldable phone, weighing just 217 grams.
Despite its lightweight design, the X Fold 5 houses a robust 6,000mAh battery and boasts impressive IP5X, IPX8, and IPX9 ratings for dust and water resistance. This unique combination of features sets it apart from competitors, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which has a lower IP48 rating.
The X Fold 5 measures a slim 9.2mm in thickness when folded, and is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The device features an 8.03-inch OLED folding display with a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels, alongside a 6.53-inch OLED cover screen.
Users can enjoy fast charging with 80W wired and 40W wireless options when the battery needs a boost. Camera enthusiasts will appreciate the triple rear camera setup, including a 50MP main lens, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP 3x camera.
Additionally, there are 20MP front cameras on both screens for selfies and video calls. The device operates on Origin OS 15 based on Android 15, which offers a multitasking system capable of running up to five apps simultaneously.
A notable feature of the X Fold 5 is its integration with Apple devices, being the first Android phone to connect with the Apple Watch for notifications and health data synchronization, although the Apple Watch must first be paired with an iPhone. The phone will be available for approximately 6,999 yuan (~$976), with speculation regarding a potential release in India, making it a device to watch in the foldable market.
