HONOR is making waves in the smartphone market with its announcement of the upcoming Magic V5 foldable smartphone, which is set to outshine the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 in terms of thinness. The company claims that the Magic V5 will become the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone, challenging the current titleholder, the OPPO Find N5, which measures 8.93mm thick.
As Samsung prepares to unveil its latest foldable models next month, it is clear that competition in this segment is intensifying. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is anticipated to be Samsung’s slimmest and largest foldable yet, but HONOR is stepping up with its own offering.
The HONOR Magic V5 is explicitly designed to compete with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, providing consumers with an attractive option that emphasizes cutting-edge design, performance, and portability. The official launch of the Magic V5 is scheduled for July 2 in China, with hopes for availability in other markets afterwards.
This launch date is strategically set just days before Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event planned for July 9, where the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are expected to be showcased. While HONOR has not yet disclosed the precise specifications of the Magic V5, it is expected to measure under 9mm in thickness, a remarkable feat for a foldable device.
Additionally, the Magic V5 is expected to feature a powerful camera setup, including a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, along with a substantial 6,100mAh battery and 66W fast charging support. The phone is also rumored to be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and have an 8-inch main display along with a 6.45-inch cover screen.
However, potential customers in the U.S. may face challenges in acquiring the HONOR Magic V5, as the brand currently does not distribute its devices in the region, likely necessitating imports through third-party retailers.
