Google’s Quick Share feature is on track to enhance its compatibility with Samsung’s Quick Share. This integration will allow users to share files more seamlessly across devices, enhancing the overall user experience on the Android platform. Last year marked a significant collaboration between Google and Samsung aimed at harmonizing their file-sharing technologies. The previously named Nearby Share was rebranded to Quick Share, aligning it with Samsung’s own feature available on Galaxy devices.
Recently, both companies have been working on redesigning Quick Share to ensure their interfaces resemble each other. This upcoming change will enable Google’s Quick Share to intercept download links from Samsung’s Quick Share, further streamlining the file-sharing process. Through an APK teardown, insights into the potential features of Google’s Quick Share were revealed. This analysis predicted that the integration could allow quick access to Samsung Cloud download links, although predicted features may not always make it to the final public release.
Samsung Galaxy users currently benefit from uploading files to Quick Share and sharing temporary download links via Samsung Cloud, which stores files for 48 hours. In the latest beta version of Google Play Service, code was discovered that indicates Google’s Quick Share will have the capability to open Samsung Cloud links directly within its interface. This will replace the previous action of routing users to a web browser. Activating this feature prompts the user to enable Bluetooth, loading the Google Quick Share interface.
Users will be informed if the automatic download does not commence, with an option to download manually through their browser. This functionality is still under development, as showcased in a demonstration video. If successful, this integration is expected to create a more unified and cohesive experience between the various Quick Share implementations, benefitting the broader Android user community.
