Google’s Pixel 10 smartphone series is set to launch in just two months, and recent developments suggest that the company is sticking with Samsung for its modem technology. Initially, reports indicated that Google was considering switching to MediaTek modems for the Pixel 10 lineup. However, new evidence points toward the Pixel 10 devices utilizing the same Exynos modem found in the Pixel 9 series.
Each year, tech enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the latest Pixel release, particularly the technological enhancements that Google will introduce. For the upcoming Pixel 10 series, much attention has focused on the new Tensor G5 chip and the shift towards TSMC for manufacturing. Recently leaked images of a supposed Pixel 10 Pro prototype have further piqued interest and challenged previous assumptions regarding its specifications.
Investigations into the Pixel 10 series date back a year, with exclusive reports highlighting potential chip choices. Last December, a source revealed Google’s consideration of MediaTek modems for the series. Yet, the latest leaks from a Design Verification Test (DVT) prototype running the DevCheck Pro app reveal insights about the hardware configuration, including the presence of “g5400” in the baseband string.
This suggests the integration of Samsung’s Exynos 5400 modem, confirming a continuity with the Pixel 9. This development indicates that Google may not be adopting MediaTek modems for the Pixel 10 after all. It remains unclear why there was a shift in focus; however, it appears that Google is still working on software compatibility for MediaTek modems for future devices, potentially reserved for models like the Pixel 10a or Pixel 11.
