Google Launches Pinterest-Inspired Images Tab for Broader User Access

Google has begun rolling out a new “Images” tab in the latest beta version of the Google app. This feature allows users to select various interest categories, such as fashion or home decor, to create a personalized visual feed. The setup mimics popular platforms like Pinterest, utilizing publicly available search images. For the time being, this feature is limited to beta users, who will provide valuable feedback before a potential broader release.

Previously, there were indications that Google was developing a Pinterest-like functionality within its app. This feature was intended to showcase images that could inspire users on topics like fashion and interior design. At that time, gathering details about the feature involved navigating several hurdles, but it now seems that Google is closer to making it available to a larger audience, as the Images tab has started appearing in the app. With the rollout of version 16.23.71 beta of the Google app, users will notice the new Images tab upon launching the app for the first time.

They’ll be prompted to choose at least three interest categories—like Fashion, Home Decor, or Travel—which helps shape their personalized image feed with images sourced from Google Search. Users can interact with these images by long-pressing them to share, save to their collection, or utilize Google Lens for further searches. Additionally, there’s an option to hide specific images from the feed. This feature is currently being tested among beta users, and Google is gathering feedback to address any issues.

With a promising outlook for how the feature has developed, there’s optimism that it may soon be available to all users in the stable branch.
