Gemini has introduced a new feature that allows users to schedule tasks in advance, enhancing the automation of routine activities. This function enables users to set prompts for specific times, days, dates, or trigger them after an event occurs. Currently, it is accessible through the Gemini app for individuals with a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription, as well as those on qualifying Google Workspace business and education plans.
The rollout of the scheduled actions feature follows its earlier appearance in a code teardown. It mirrors the scheduled tasks functionality found in other AI tools, such as ChatGPT. Through this new feature, users can automate various tasks, making their daily routines more efficient.
For example, one can program Gemini to summarize calendar events and unread emails each morning, generate creative blog ideas every Monday, or stay informed about their favorite sports teams. Beyond daily tasks, the scheduled actions feature is advantageous for one-off requirements, like requesting a summary of an award show shortly after it concludes. Google notes that users can easily adjust existing prompts to create recurring actions and manage these through a designated scheduled actions page within the app’s settings.
However, it’s important to note that the scheduled actions feature is not universally available to all Gemini users. Currently, it is exclusive to those with specific subscriptions, and there has been no official announcement from Google about potentially offering this feature on the free tier in the future.
