Another Android Manufacturer Mimics iPhone’s Action Button Design

Several Android brands are now embracing features previously reserved for the iPhone, including a customizable button similar to Apple’s Action Button. Apple made a significant change with the introduction of the iPhone 15 Pro models by replacing the traditional mute switch with a customizable Action Button. This decision stirred mixed feelings among users, but Apple expanded this feature across all iPhone 16 models.

Following Apple’s lead, OnePlus substituted its well-known alert slider with a similar customizable button on the OnePlus 13s. This trend appears to be gaining traction among other manufacturers. Recently, a leak hinted that vivo might be the next brand to adopt this customizable button on its upcoming X Fold 5 foldable phone.

A tipster shared an image on Weibo showcasing the phone’s side, which displays three buttons: the volume rocker, a power button that also serves as a fingerprint scanner, and the newly added customizable button. The customization interface for this button, as revealed in the leak, closely resembles Apple’s iOS settings for the Action Button. The interface hints at a variety of functions users can assign, including the ability to mute the phone, launch the camera, activate the flashlight, search for songs, and enable Do Not Disturb mode.

The X Fold 5 is anticipated to be launched in China later this month, with a global distribution set for July. Early leaks suggest that this device could potentially be the lightest foldable on the market and will introduce a new multitasking feature named “Atomic Workbench.”
