Anker has announced a recall of approximately one million of its PowerCore 10000 power banks, specifically the model A1263, due to a fire hazard. The company has identified an issue with the lithium-ion battery used in these devices, which may cause overheating, potential melting of plastic parts, and even fires or explosions.
Between June 1, 2016, and December 31, 2022, around 1,158,000 units were sold online through various platforms, including Amazon and eBay. So far, Anker has received 19 reports of incidents, including explosions and minor burn injuries.
To determine if your power bank is included in the recall, inspect the product details located on the bottom of the device. Ensure that the model number reads A1263.
If it matches, go to Anker’s website to access their verification tool to see if your specific serial number is affected. If the serial number has faded and is unreadable, Anker advises contacting them for assistance.
If your device is part of the recall, you should cease using it immediately. For customers whose power banks are recalled, Anker is offering a choice between a $30 gift card or a free replacement power bank.
To claim this, you need to take a photograph of the affected unit next to a piece of paper that includes your name and contact information, along with the word “Recall” and the submission date written in permanent marker on the device. You will also need to submit a second photo showing the model and serial numbers.
After submitting your claim on Anker’s website, safely dispose of the power bank at a facility that accepts lithium-ion batteries to avoid any fire hazards.
