Spotify Jam Launching on Android Auto and Vehicles Featuring Google Built-In Integration

Spotify is set to enhance its social listening experience by launching the Spotify Jam feature on Android Auto, along with vehicles that are equipped with Google built-in. This functionality allows users to collaborate on playlists in real time, enabling friends to take turns controlling the music during their rides together.

The announcement was made during Google’s I/O session focused on innovative in-car application experiences. Spotify Jam will utilize the new media app templates introduced as part of the Android for Cars App Library.

These templates are designed to ensure safer usage of apps in vehicles, minimizing distractions while users enjoy their favorite tunes. With Spotify Jam, users will be able to initiate or join listening sessions via a QR code, allowing for a seamless connection with no need for physical proximity to the vehicle’s control unit.

This will transform the way friends interact with music during road trips, as any passenger can easily modify the playlist or control playback from their own device without needing to ask the driver or the front-seat passenger for assistance. The new media app templates also provide app developers with tools to create more engaging experiences that resemble the features of mobile apps, designed specifically for car environments.

This includes a Media Playback template for displaying currently playing songs and facilitating user interaction, as well as a Sectioned Item template for content browsing and discovery. Spotify Jam will be integrated into Android Auto in the upcoming months, alongside future support for Android Automotive OS later this year.

As users eagerly await its release, the prospect of sharing musical moments on the road becomes even more exciting.
