Samsung’s Upcoming Galaxy Watch Update Promises to Bring Unique Features and Exciting Changes

Samsung appears to be making an unconventional decision regarding the next update for its Galaxy Watch. Reports suggest that the company may skip the One UI 7 Watch update altogether and move directly to One UI 8 Watch. This leap would represent a first for Samsung smartwatches, as the company typically provides incremental updates.

Currently, Galaxy Watch users are running One UI 6 Watch, which is based on Wear OS 5. The anticipated upgrade would have been One UI 7 Watch, rooted in Wear OS 5.1. However, insights from social media user IposDev and sources from SamMobile indicate that Samsung is opting to bypass this version in order to synchronize its smartwatch software with that of its smartphones.

The rationale for this decision likely ties into the timeline for the One UI 8 update, which is reportedly on the horizon. Samsung is expected to launch a beta version of One UI 8 next month, with a stable release planned for flagship Galaxy phones around August or September. This timeline makes skipping One UI 7 Watch logical, as it could allow Samsung to better align the smartwatch and smartphone experiences rather than releasing an update that would have limited relevance.

For Galaxy Watch owners anticipating the Wear OS 5.1 update—based on Android 15—there might be a longer wait. If rumors hold true, Samsung may delay the release of this version until they unveil One UI 8 Watch, anticipated with the Galaxy Watch 8 in July. It’s worth noting that if Samsung chooses to launch One UI 8 Watch based on Wear OS 6, it would be underpinned by the upcoming Android 16, complemented by fresh designs and improved health features.
