Oura has recently announced two exciting new features, Meals and Glucose, for the Oura app. These additions aim to enhance users’ understanding of how their daily actions impact their metabolic health. By integrating nutrition logging and continuous glucose monitoring, users can now examine the interplay between their diet and blood sugar levels alongside other tracked metrics like sleep, activity, and stress. This integration reinforces Oura’s commitment to being a comprehensive health tracker with a focus on holistic wellness.
The Meals feature utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze users’ food intake, providing detailed breakdowns of essential nutrients such as protein, fiber, sugars, fats, and carbohydrates. Though the feature has previously been explored in the Oura Labs program, it is now a permanent part of the app. Oura Advisor, the app’s AI-driven guidance tool, assists users in understanding how their food choices influence their well-being. Users can log their meals by inputting details manually, selecting options from a favorites list, or uploading images of their meals.
The goal is to empower users to make informed dietary choices without the need for calorie counting. In conjunction with the Meals feature, Oura has introduced the Glucose feature through a partnership with Dexcom, the developer of the Stelo biosensor. This FDA-cleared device allows users to monitor their glucose levels throughout the day without the need for a prescription. When connected to the Oura app, the glucose data is woven into insights about sleep, stress, and physical activity, offering a comprehensive view of factors affecting blood sugar levels.
A notable addition is the “Time above range” metric, which indicates periods of elevated glucose levels and highlights trends that can encourage positive behavioral changes. Both features are available now for Oura members on iOS and Android in the US, with a planned international rollout for the Meals feature later this year. Oura is also set to release Oura Advisor integration in the coming months. The Stelo biosensor is priced at $99 for two 15-day wear sensors and is suitable for adults aged 18 and above, including those who are prediabetic or living with Type 2 diabetes.
