Samsung has recently launched its first One UI 8 beta for the Galaxy S25, introducing an innovative multitasking feature that utilizes a 90:10 split-screen ratio. This new configuration allows users to dedicate more screen space to one app while keeping another visibly accessible.
This design is particularly effective for those who frequently switch between applications, enhancing productivity without sacrificing ease of use. Historically, OnePlus was the pioneer behind the 90:10 split using its Open Canvas feature.
Google is currently working on implementing this multitasking enhancement for Pixel devices, which may appear in an upcoming QPR update. For now, Galaxy S25 users can test out this feature as part of the Android 16-based One UI 8 beta program.
According to the changelog for One UI 8, the improved split-screen view enables users to adjust the size of two open apps easily. With the larger app taking up 90% of the screen, it becomes significantly easier to engage with, while the smaller app remains partially visible.
Users can quickly switch focus between the apps by tapping on the smaller one, making for a seamless multitasking experience. This feature aligns with Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance Android’s multitasking capabilities, as seen in the recent Android 16 betas.
Although Google has not officially announced this change, it is expected to reach Pixel users in the Android 16 QPR1 update or a future release.
