Recent reports suggest a leak concerning the Nintendo Switch 2 has surfaced, drawing significant interest among gaming enthusiasts. A YouTuber named Geekerwan claims to have obtained a motherboard for the yet-to-be-released console, purportedly acquired from an online marketplace likened to a “Chinese eBay.” In a detailed video, he explores the hardware elements of the Switch 2, sharing insights into its capabilities.
According to Geekerwan, the motherboard is equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5X memory clocked at an impressive 8533MT/s, distributed over two memory dies. Additionally, it includes a MediaTek MT3681AEN chip for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The standout feature of this motherboard is its NVIDIA processor, identified as T239.
This SoC boasts a die size of 207mm², nearly double that of the Switch 1’s Tegra X1 chip and exceeding the size of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite. Further examination of the chip reveals it contains eight A78C CPU cores powered by an Ampere-based GPU. Geekerwan implies that the architectural framework behind the GPU resembles that of NVIDIA’s RTX 30-series graphics cards.
He estimates that the performance of the Switch 2 could be comparable to a downclocked RTX 2050 laptop GPU. From simulated performance metrics, the Switch 2 is expected to match the capabilities of a Steam Deck in handheld mode. This is particularly notable considering the Switch 2 maintains a similar thickness to its predecessor.
When docked, its performance could rival that of a GTX 1050 Ti. Overall, both handheld and docked performance are projected to improve by approximately seven times compared to the original Switch. Moreover, the Switch 2 will leverage NVIDIA’s DLSS technology to enhance graphical output, enabling it to handle demanding titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 efficiently.
With pre-orders starting at $449 and a scheduled release date of June 5, excitement continues to build as fans anticipate the launch.
