Recent findings in the Android 16 beta suggest that Apple’s upcoming iOS 19 may introduce a feature allowing users to transfer their eSIM from an iPhone to an Android device directly. This potential new functionality, indicated by strings in Google’s SIM Manager app, could simplify the process and may be unveiled at Apple’s WWDC 2025 event.
Transitioning from an iPhone to an Android phone can be cumbersome, particularly when it comes to transferring an eSIM. Currently, users typically need to contact their carrier to obtain a new QR code to activate their service on the new device.
Fortunately, iOS 19 might change that. The Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update recently revealed new strings in Google’s SIM Manager app, which is capable of provisioning and transferring eSIMs between Android devices.
This latest version hints that iOS 19 will feature a “Transfer to Android” option under the Settings menu. This option may provide a manual transfer process that resembles existing eSIM transfer methods between Android devices, starting with a QR code scan.
Under this new transfer option, users may have access to an ‘Other Options’ button. This button is expected to facilitate the manual transfer process that requires entering a session ID and passcode generated by the iPhone.
If the devices fail to connect wirelessly, it may indicate that the iPhone does not have iOS 19 installed. While it might seem unlikely for a Google app to reveal an Apple feature, it demonstrates a necessary collaboration, likely due to carriers’ requests to streamline the switching process for users.
With the expected announcement of iOS 19 on the horizon, the possibility of cross-platform eSIM transfers is becoming increasingly plausible, easing transitions for a multitude of users.
