Google Photos has recently introduced a much-anticipated feature that allows users to manually add photos to stacks. Previously, this app grouped similar images automatically, which helped reduce clutter from near-duplicate photos. While users could remove unwanted images or unstack an entire group, the process of adding photos to a stack was an entirely automated one, leaving users without control over the selection.
Now, starting with iOS, Google Photos is rolling out an option for manual addition to stacks. This feature aims to enhance user experience by providing more flexibility in organizing images. Google Photos already offers various methods to manage vast collections of pictures, including albums and Memories.
The stacks feature was introduced as a way to group similar images together automatically. Earlier this year, hints emerged suggesting that manual stack creation might be on the horizon, as code references for this functionality appeared in updates for Android. While Android users have yet to receive this feature, it has debuted on iOS, where a new button for manually stacking photos has been successfully implemented.
Although the appearance of this feature on iOS does not guarantee an imminent launch on Android, it does raise hopes among users. Given the ongoing development work, many are optimistic that Android users will soon have the opportunity to utilize manual photo stacking. This added control will likely make organizing images more efficient and enjoyable for all Google Photos users in the near future.
