Google Messages Introduces New Way to Experience Emoji Screen Effects

Google Messages has recently enhanced its Screen Effects feature by introducing the ability to trigger full-screen animations through the use of emojis. Users can now send a pair of emojis to activate these effects, adding a playful element to their chats. However, the app is currently testing a new functionality that will allow users to initiate Screen Effects using just a single emoji.

Reports from users indicate that the latest beta version of Google Messages has rolled out support for this single emoji trigger. Some of the emojis that can currently activate these effects include the crescent moon, clapping hands, honeybee, volcano, ZZZ, and partying face emojis. This new feature is available in both RCS conversations and standard SMS chats, but it only works if the sent emoji stands alone as a message.

If it is included in a longer text, the animation will not be triggered. While the existing emoji Screen Effects still require users to send two emojis for activation, there is still a degree of uncertainty regarding the full range of emojis that can be used for the new single-emoji feature. As of now, Google has not released a complete list of these emojis.

For those who may find the Screen Effects distracting, Google Messages provides an option to disable the full-screen animations. Users can do this by tapping on their profile icon, navigating to Messages settings, and toggling off the “Show expressive animations” feature. Overall, these new updates to Google Messages offer an exciting way to enhance conversations, adding a fun and dynamic touch to messaging.
